Friday Focus – Beautiful You

Friday already! Woo hoo! LOL¬† Weekend here I come ūüôā but before I head into the weekend, I need to share my Friday Focus with you.¬† This week brings you one of my current favourite sets, Beautiful You. I agonized over which creations to use for today's post as the gorgeous designs with this set truly showcase the incredible talent of stampers and the scenic settings they have created featuring the images in this set are simply inspiring. Let's get straight to it then, shall we! Hello!!! Julie DeGuia certainly created a stunning scene by combining Beautiful You with Sheltering Tree.¬† Using a simple masking technique she was able to stamp the trees in the background.¬† Not only did¬†she ground the trees with one of the Sheltering Tree stamps but she used it to ground the woman, creating a perfect balance.¬† I can't wait to try out a card like this. Julie has inspired me.   Next we have a classy design by Claire Daly, who used another 'woman' stamp from the Beautiful You set.¬† Notice how she cropped her cardstock closely around the woman and left lots of 'white' space on her card front.¬† This, along with the colouring of the image and background, really centers the focus on her. A simple banner cut on the stamped cardstock as well as the patterned paper banner behind it subtly¬†point your eyes upward to the image yet again, as does the neutral coloured card base.¬† Stunning! You can tell Claire has a great eye for art.   On to the beautiful dancing lady and this lovely card created by Kristi Gray.¬† I love her colour choices and talk about great highlighting with her watercolouring. Notice how she used a banner, a circle and a ribbon to create a triangle composition. Another great element of composition here is how Kristi made sure to tie in the gold on the embossed patterned paper by adding other gold elements.¬† See the gold stars? And how about the Gold Metallic Thread behind the red ribbon? Gorgeous, wouldn't you agree!   Typically I share three projects, however today I had four kind women grant me permission to use their designs, so I am sharing them all with you! Our final work of art was created by Jane Allmark.¬† She also use the stylish woman and stamped her randomly on the card front, colouring in each differently.¬† Notice how she added some shading behind the woman.¬† Small touches such as this help draw your eye without you even realizing it.¬† Sometimes you need to look at a card two or three times before you even notice these details. This card is perfect for that friend who is a fashionista! Jane also has a video up on YouTube showing how you can add a few lines to this image so that she is wearing a bikini!¬† Yes, this set is very versatile ūüôā   I hope you are feeling inspired by these fantastic designs.¬† Pull out your stamp set and discover what scenes¬†& styles you can create!¬† If you don't already own this set and you live in Canada, then pop on over to My Store to place your order! Wishing you all a blessed weekend!

Friday Focus – Guy Greetings

It's Fridayyyyy!!! Woo hoo, we are one step closer to the weekend.¬† After a stressful evening and morning because I¬†made an¬†uh-oh¬†on¬†my website and had to pay to have it restored back a week, I am back to the world of sanity and happiness! I was checking my calendar the other day and every weekend is fully booked this month.¬† That is crazy, especially when you think that not one weekend involves stamping or stamping events!¬† Gasp! That just sunk in... what am I going to do?¬† I mean it's new catalogue time right!? That means we all want to be in our craft room playing and crafting and creating.¬† I guess there is not much I can do about it. Well today we are focusing on a stamp set that is a bit older - Guy Greetings.¬† I find that many of my customers, myself included, can find it difficult to create a nice masculine card. The focus of this set is men! Which means that half the work is already done for you in creating the perfect card ūüôā Here are some wonderful creations by some talented women. There are quite a variety of images in this set, from classic, to business man, to¬†the hands on man. First we have a subtle and very manly card created by Tracy May.¬† Tracy used a very neutral colour palette with the Marina Mist, White and Black ink.¬† I love the background she created behind her stamped images and the simple yet effective layering of the images and the sentiment.¬† We know how macho men like to think they are, right? ūüėČ Next we have another manly card from Maria Willis.¬† She included a variety of hats in the stamp set.¬† I love the shadowing on the cardstock below the hats and the man! Did you notice the ribbon sticking out the left side and the cut in the front of the card?¬† Move the man and he suddenly is wearing a different hat. Clever. Check out the¬†cool background Ceal Pritchett¬†created for her card around the classic car.¬†Did you notice how she grounded the car by adding washi tape below it?¬† A simple yet effective way to make sure your image isn't left hanging in mid-air.¬† (don't get me wrong, you can do this but for certain images like cars, they should be grounded to look right.) Again a nice neutral colour palette because let's be honest, men typically don't care for flashy, frilly cards. All beautiful creations!¬† Has this inspired you with new ideas for some masculine cards? See you all again on Monday.¬†I'm off to a bodybuilding competition tomorrow to support a competitor we have been coaching and training.¬† I think I may be as nervous as he is!
